This painting symbolizes the importance of teaching our Métis children to honour the ancestors who walked before them so they know where they come from.

The three turtles in the earth move through the ground water towards a wine that demonstrates the connection between the earth and sky. The sunflower held by the mother and daughter symbolizes how vital it is to provide warmth, nurturing and guidance to children so they are grounded as they experience life. The walking stick held by the father and son represent how important it is to walk the trails following the wisdom of our ancestors who went before us. It is said that our ancestors dance in the northern lights which reminds us we are never alone and our ancestors will always be supporting our spirit as we walk through life on earth.
