FALL 2025 SHIPPING UPDATES

CANADA POST STRIKE

Due to the Canada Post strike we are using alternative courier services through UPS and Purolator for domestic orders, and DHL for orders outside of Canada.

For orders to the United States and overseas, additional fees will apply for shipping with DHL. We will send an invoice for the additional charges following the confirmation of your order.

Due to the uncertainty of the duration of the Canada Post strike we are unable to provide a timeline of how long these extra measures will last. If you would like us to hold your order for shipping until Canada Post services resume we are committed to offering this as an option.

At checkout please continue with the Canada Post services as listed and we will default to the alternate services as listed above.

DUTIES APPLIED TO USA ORDERS

Ben Houstie

Ben Houstie, a Heiltsuk artist born in Bella Bella, BC, in 1960, creates original paintings, limited-edition prints, and carved cedar works such as rattles and paddles. Despite the hardships of being separated from his family while attending St. Michael’s residential school in Alert Bay, he drew strength and inspiration from the artistic traditions of his people, using art as a way to heal and reconnect with his heritage. Over his career, Houstie has collaborated with respected artists including Cheryl Hall, Robert Hall, David Gladstone, and Beau Dick. A pivotal moment came in 1988 when he worked with Bill Reid, painting drums and paddles for the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and later contributing to the University of British Columbia’s The Transforming Image exhibition in 2000. His work continues to honor his lineage, particularly through projects inspired by bent box designs of his great-grandfather, Daniel Houstie, solidifying his role as both a cultural bearer and contemporary Indigenous artist.

About Wanuskewin Collective

Our shops are a not-for-profit organization that have been apart of the Wanuskewin Heritage Park for over 30 years now. With our earnings going back into the park and other organizations such as ones involved in survivors of Residential schools as well as families of Missing Murdered Indigenous Women; we are fortunate and proud to be apart of Treaty 6 Territory.
