SACRD THNDR was founded in 2023 by Alex Manitopyes, a non-binary/trans masc fashion designer from Muskowekwan and Peepeekisis First Nation. Born and raised in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, Alberta), Alex’s designs are deeply influenced by their cultural roots, merging traditional Indigenous artistry with contemporary high fashion.

The brand’s name, SACRD THNDR, pays tribute to Alex’s ancestral name, Manito Pinaycee—meaning Sacred Thunderbird, a symbol of strength, resilience, and transformation. Through colonial translation, it became Manito Peeyesew, later shortened by the Indian agent to Manitopyes.

As a Two-Spirit designer, Alex brings a unique and inclusive vision to the fashion world, challenging conventional norms and celebrating the diverse, fluid nature of Indigenous identity. Their work is more than adornment—it is a statement, a legacy, and a bridge between tradition and modernity.
