about the artist

Cultural Background: Gitxsan, Fireweed Clan, Terrace BC

Jessica McCallum-Miller (Hlox Majagalee) is from the Fireweed Clan of the Gitxsan Nation, with roots in the village of Kispiox and was born in Terrace, B.C. The beauty of Northwest Coast Indigenous carving awakened her connection to her culture and inspired her to create traditional Gitxsan Art. A graduate of the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art, Jessica now shares stories through painting, design, carving, and creating Copper regalia. Her work is guided by the land, animals, and the people around her, carrying the spirit of her ancestors—honouring identity, tradition, and the sacred connection between all living things.
