The Mother Bear and Cub symbolize family and nurturing, reflecting the teachings I received from my Mother and Grandmother. Bears represent the wisdom of our elders, showing us essential skills like hunting, fishing, and gathering berries. They embody the protectors and knowledge keepers who lead our communities. This imagery honours the bonds of family and the importance of passing down wisdom.

ovila mailhot

Ovila Mailhot is a self-taught artist from Seabird Island, British Columbia, with roots in the Nlaka’pamux and Stó:lō Nations. His work is deeply connected to his culture and community, shaped by a strong desire to represent where he comes from.
